MARIKINA--JPV Marikina may have waited a year for this moment to happen, but it bore good results not just for the club but also for the entire city.
About 500 people showed up at the Marikina Sports Center, which by Philippine football standards is already a good-sized crowd, on Saturday night to watch Marikina hosting Cebu in the first PFL game to be played in the said venue--and the first professional football game that took place here since the 2012 UFL Cup.
"Actually, pumunta talaga ako sa taas kanina after ng game, and then I thanked some fans for coming in to watch the game," said Marikina mentor Dan Padernal.
He also thanked the media for helping the team spread the word despite the venue being approved just within the week.
"It's because of you, guys, for helping to that approach," Padernal told the reporters who were present in the said match.
He also thanked the Cebuano squad for persuading its Metro Manila-based fans to come to the venue.
"We are thankful also to Global for bringing some fans to go and watch tonight," continued Padernal.

In the end, the majority of the crowd walked out of "Camp Big Falcon" with smiles on their faces as Marikina defeated Cebu, 2-1.
"It's a historic game for Marikina that we got a win in our first home match here. I'm very proud of what we did tonight," Padernal lauded.
