The Week That Was in Pro Wrestling: taking a look at the local scene

By JP Abcede

Professional wrestling is not just what is happening across the Pacific or in Japan. For this week, we would like to give the spotlight to our country's three pro wrestling promotions: Philippine Wrestling Revolution, Manila Wrestling Federation, and Art of War Wrestling.

PWR heads to Path of Gold

PWR so far has maintained a one-event-per-month average with Holding Hands While Wrestling in February and now with Path of Gold 2018, which would be held tomorrow Sunday at the Power Mac Center Spotlight, Circuit, Makati.

In the card includes the 20-person Path of Gold match, which would give the winner the right to challenge for a championship of their choosing at Wrevolution X. Miguel Rosales would be entering number one as decreed by PWR co-owner and Wrestling Lord and Savior John Sebastian.

Chris Panzer would be invoking his rematch clause for the PWR championship against Ralph Imabayashi, bad back and all. One thing going the former champ's way is that the other half of MTNH, Rederick Mahaba, is out with a shoulder injury.

Meanwhile, The Network is putting the PWR tag belts on the line against tag team tournament victors Zayden Trudeau and Bolt, as well as Sebastian and PWR queen Crystal. It will also be a last man standing match for the All Out War championship between Vlad Sinnsyk and The Apocalypse.

Finally, the returning Mr Sy is set to reveal the number one contender for Mike Madrigal's PHX championship, and Dax Xaviera and Jake de Leon will figure in a singles match opposite each other.

MWF holds first card of year

On the same date that WrestleMania will be held, MWF will be staging "MWF 1: Kasaysayan" on April 8 at Elements at Centris in Quezon City. Former WWE talent Ho Ho Lun makes his return to the country as he teams up with Robin Sane to go up against Mr Lucha and Southeast Asian tag team champion Kenneth "The Eurasian Dragon" Thexeira of Singapore Pro Wrestling in the main event.

However, this is not the promotion's first event in 2018 as it organized a meet and greet gathering in University of the Philippines-Diliman with MWF Open House: Level UP on February 25.

AOWW makes its debut

After months of vignettes and teasers, Art of War Wrestling finally opens its curtains on March 17 at Valkyrie at The Palace in Taguig with Genesis. They presented the card in a press conference held at the Alabang Country Club in January, with "Classical" Bryan Leo headlining the show.
