QUEZON CITY--Zark’s Burger-Lyceum snapped a three-game slump with 108-94 victory over Go for Gold on Monday in the 2018 PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup at JCSGO Gym.
CJ Perez scored 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Mike Nzeusseu turned in a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds for the Jawbreakers, who bounced back from frustrating 107-106 overtime loss to Gamboa Coffee Mix-St. Clare last week.
MJ Ayaay had 16 points and six assists and Jaycee Marcelino added 15, including six the fourth quarter to help Zark’s-Lyceum hold off Go for Gold for good.
The Jawbreakers blew an 81-54 advantage with 3:04 remaining in the third quarter as Matt Salem warmed up to spark a late rally by the Scratchers, who cut the lead down to 91-83 at the 5:35 mark of the fourth.
Then the twins of Jaycee and Jayvee Marcelino took charge as Zark’s-Lyceum pulled away again before Ayaay put on the finishing touches late.
“Nawala yung joy sa laro namin,” said coach Topex Robinson as the Jawbreakers remain in contention for playoff berth with a 5-4 mark. “Joy means that you'll make mistakes and learn from those mistakes. I just let them play today.”
“Again, we're happy that we’re back on the winning track. We just have to play our game and nothing is gonna change. What’s important is we learn from our mistakes and try to get better all the time.”
Salem tallied 24 points while Yankie Haruna chipped in 22 markers and nine rebounds for the Scratchers, who lost for the third straight time and dropped to a 4-6 card.
