Stalwarts break out from Palaro field, take pole position from SOCCSKSARGEN

VIGAN, Ilocos Sur - Like a diesel engine heating up, National Capital Region zoomed right back on top of the medal standings at the ongoing 2018 Palarong Pambansa, Tuesday evening.

The Stalwars overcame a surprise SOCCSKSARGEN domination as Day 2 of competition started with their patented medal surge.

The Stalwarts now have 17 gold, nine silver and seven bronze medals as of this writing.

Calabarzon on the other hand, made huge strides in overtaking the surprise leaders, but are still way behind against the reigning champions with their 10 gold, seven silver and 16 bronze medals on their banner.

Surprise overnight leaders SOCCSKSARGEN, meanwhile, fell to third place after they collected six gold, six silver and nine bronze medals.

All of their six gold medals came from elementary arnis courtesy of Princess Shelly Valdez and Andrei Fritz Justine Acarcioto.


Western Visayas further slid down to fourth with a medal haul of five gold, 11 silver and the same number of bronze medals.

Hosts Ilocos Region on the other hand, now have three gold, three silvers and two bronze medals, putting them in 10th place in the medal board.

Completing the medal standings are CAR (5-5-4), Central Visayas (5-3-3), Northern Mindanao (4-4-3), Central Luzon (4-2-4), Bicol (3-7-7), Caraga (3-2-1), Cagayan Valley (3-1-5), Mimaropa (2-5-2), Davao (2-5-2), Eastern Visayas (2-0-0), Zamboanga Peninsula (0-1-3) and ARMM (0-0-1).
