MAKATI--UE pulled off an early stunner in the 12th Summer Grand Slam Softball Tournament at the Sto. Nino Ball Park in Marikina by subduing reigning UAAP champion Adamson, 9-8.

The Lady Warriors needed 10 innings before scoring the go-ahead run to upset the Lady Falcons in the women's open division battle of the tournament organized by ASAPHIL and sponsored by Cebuana Lhuillier.

Adamson, however, bounced back with a 5-2 victory over its alumni squad even as UE was sent back to earth through a 0-10 beating by the RP Youth Team.

On the other hand, P'Cali struggled in form in its first three assignments, bowing to La Salle, 0-2, Chikara-Brunei, 2-9, and Indonesia, 4-5.

In the women's club division, Rizal topped Sta. Maria, Bulacan, 10-7, and Makati, 5-0.

PUP then blasted Makati with a 6-1 rout, while San Miguel defeated Laguna, 3-1.

In the men's club division, Cabuyao hacked out blowout wins against San Ildefonso (17-2) and BSU, 7-0.

Best Binangonan scored a 9-2 victory over Alasba only to be bludgeoned by Marikina with a 21-0 crushing.

RTU fell prey to Quezon, 9-11, but bounced back with a 9-0 shutout against Orioles.

The other game had Ateneo Coaches defeating Manila, 10-0.
