Azkals set to end managerial hunt by June, eye pre-Asian Cup friendlies

MANILA--The Azkals gave not one, but two surprises to begin the build-up on their much-awaited debut in the AFC Asian Cup.

As announced by team manager Dan Palami on Friday during the Business of Football conference in Makati, the squad is eyeing friendlies with fellow Asian Cup participants when the window resumes in September, two months after the World Cup in Russia blows the final whistle.

But before that, the managerial post will be filled by June 14, with Thomas Dooley still in the hunt for the hot seat he vacated after steering the Azkals to its historic feat in March.

After the announcement, the side ranked 111th in the world are eyeing Bahrain and Asian Cup holders Australia as their potential opponents.
