Marikina snaps losing streak by sending Cebu back to reality

BINAN--JPV Marikina's long PFL skid is over.

The league's lone Metro Manila side finally scored a win after a seven-game losing spell, downing Global Cebu, 3-1, at the Binan Football Stadium on Sunday night.

Goals from Japanese reinforcements Keigo Moriyasu and Ryuki Kozawa and local Kennedy Uzoka did the trick for Marikina as the club quickly sent Cebu back to earth following the latter's first win of the season.

Moriyasu opened the floodgates for Marikina with a perfectly-taken free kick from the left wing that curled past the Cebu wall and Patrick Deyto in the 17th minute.

Kozawa then sneaked past the Cebu backline and had only Deyto to beat for the 75th minute strike.

Uzoka then found the net from a tight angle at the right side of the woodwork for the 3-0 count in the 90th minute.

Darryl Roberts scored a penalty in stoppage time for the consolation goal for Cebu.

Marikina now has three wins for nine points, but the club remains in fifth place as Laguna, which also has nine points, has a better goal difference for fourth place.

Cebu remains at the cellar with four points.
