MANILA -- 2018 GPL Spring champions Ascension Gaming (ASC) ended their 2018 Mid Season Invitational campaign abruptly after being eliminated early, bagging third place in their Play-In Group Stage standings at the Riot European Studios in Berlin, Germany, Saturday evening (Philippine time).

After losing all of their games in Day 1 to CIS giants Gambit eSports (GMB), Latin America - South champions Kaos Latin Gamers (KLG), and Latin America - North kings Rainbow7 (R7), the Thai powerhouse surged back on the Group A standings in Day 2, winning two of their three matches and going 2-4 in finality, including a stomp against KLG in their group's final match.

But their late burst didn't have the enough strength to propel themselves on top.

After dropping a game against R7, they were officially eliminated from Main Stage qualification after GMB, despite bowing to the Thais in the curtain-raiser, won their last two games, which meant the latter to lock in the top spot in their group and gave them the Play-In playoff ticket.

In spite of their sudden exit, ASC secured 12th/13th place and will bag US$11,250.
