MANILA -- Jerwin "Pretty Boy" Ancajas carved out a methodical unanimous decision over Jonas Sultan in their IBF Super Flyweight showdown at the Save More Arena in Fresno, California, USA Sunday.
Ancajas had all three judges giving him the nod after chipping 119-107 (twice) and 117-111 as he displayed fluidity over Sultan with blinding footwork and superb punching power all fight long.
Sultan had some moments early in the fight, scoring significant blows on the reigning champion, but could not match on the number of punches thrown. this included an overhand right to Ancajas' face in the third round.
From then on, it was Sultan, Top Rank's rising star who had the last say as he pestered Sultan with ferocious combinations until the final bell.
The fight also made history as the first all-Filipino world title bout since 1925, when Pancho Villa defeated Clever Sencio.
With the victory, Ancajas — representing the rising “Survival Camp” in Magallanes, Cavite — improved to 30-1, with 20 KOs. For his part, Sultan — fighting out of the famed ALA stable in Cebu — fell to 14-4, with 9 KOs.
