Gilas start FIBA 3X3 campaign with aplomb

By JP Abcede

MANILA--The Philippine men's 3X3 basketball team routed Brazil, 15-7, to clinch a win in its debut outing at the 2018 FIBA 3X3 World Cup held at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

The Gilas had a balance output with Stanley Pringle, RR Pogoy, and Troy Rosario all scored four points each, while Christian Standhardinger came up with three.

The boys in blue swished eight straight points after the South American side opened the scoring. Standhardinger completed an and-one after posting his man for a fadeaway near the basket. Pogoy then sunk two straight two-pointers before Rosario did his damage from the freethrow line.

Coming off the bench, Pringle concluded the onslaught with his forays towards the goal, losing whoever is guarding him with his handles and his speed; his finishes getting the approval of the homecrowd.

Marcellus Sarmento was the bright spot for BRA with four markers.

The Philippines will close out the second day of action against world top ten Mongolia later in the evening.
