MAKATI--As part of the penalties given by FIBA to SBP following the brawl between Gilas and Australia on July 2, the Philippine team's next game in the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers against Qatar will be held behind closed doors.

Scheduled on Sept. 17, Gilas will have to host Qatar without any fan cheering for both sides because of some fans getting involved in the said brawl.

"Philippines' national federation, Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, Inc (SBP), is sanctioned for the unsportsmanlike behavior of its delegation members and of its public, as well as for insufficient organization of the game," FIBA said in its statement.

In effect, the SBP was also slapped with a CHF 250,000 (around PHP13.38 million) fine.

Among the notable events that took place during the brawl were former PBA player Peter Aguilar, the father of current Ginebra and Gilas star Japeth, throwing a chair at an Australian player and fans throwing water bottles and some other items.
