Makati Skyscrapers down GenSan Warriors for back-to-back wins

ANTIPOLO CITY—Makati leaned on a hot start to repulse General Santos-Golden State College, 86-71, in the first game of Tuesday action of the 2018 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Datu Cup at the Ynares Center.

The Skyscrapers maintained double-digit leads the entire ballgame, but had to withstand a fourth quarter uprising by the Warriors en route to its second straight win and fourth overall in five games.

Ex-pro Philip Paniamogan produced a game-best 28 points on 10-of-19 shooting with five rebounds, four assists and thee steals for the boys of coach Cholo Villanueva.

Jeckster Apinan added 11 and nine boards, while Rudy Lingganay produced 10 markers.

After a close 29-17 first quarter, the Skyscrapers used a 23-12 second period to end the half with a commanding 52-29 edge.

GenSan battled back in the final quarter, even getting to as close as 11, 66-77, on a Rudolfo Villaruel bucket with 2:39 left in the game. But Makati kept its compsore in the homestretch en route to victory.

Despite shooting 30-of-65 (46%) from the field, the Skyscrapers committed 25 turnovers, which translated into 30 GenSan points.

Christopher Magaslang had 24 points and seven steals for the Warriors, which fell to its third straight loss and a 1-4 record. Viilaruel was the other Warrior in double digits with 16 markers and nine rebounds.
