MANILA -- From Rio to Jakarta-Palembang, Olympic silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz continued to rack up achievements.
She is now a Asiad gold medalist as she gave the first gold medal for the Philippines for this year's edition by clinching the weightlifting women's 53 kg event championship at Jakarta International Expo, Tuesday.
Diaz successfully made a 92-kilogran lift in the snatch portion and a 115-kilogram lift at clean and jerk, which registered into 207 points, a nail bit behind silver winner Kristina Shermatova of Turkmenistan.
After she ended the medal drought of Philippines in Olympics, Diaz became the first Filipino weightlifting gold medalist in Asian Games.
The Zamboanga pride will also go home with a PHP6 million incentive.
With Diaz taking the gold medal for the Philippines, the Philippines currently possesses five medals in Day 3 of the 18th Asian Games as Pauline Lopez of taekwondo kicked her way to the fourth bronze for the team earlier in the day.
