Iloilo takes runner-up finish with draw at Laguna

By Ivan Saldajeno

BIÑAN -- Jovin Bedic's header goal was all Kaya Iloilo needed to lock in the second place finish in the PFL despite being held to a 1-1 draw in Stallion Laguna's final home game of their campaign at their Stable, that is, the Binan Football Stadium.

Bedic found the net with a close-range header off a cross in the 39th minute to put Iloilo on the board.

However, Iloilo committed a huge blunder as Jhan-Jhan Melliza picked Melo Tacusalme's pass to Ace Villanueva and dashed his way into the now open goal for the 1-all count in the 56th minute.

Laguna actually had several chances to steal the win, but Iloilo held on.

With the head-to-head draw, Iloilo now has two chances to take a spot in next year's AFC Cup, either by winning the Copa Paulino Alcantara or by Negros completing the double.
