SAN JUAN -- San Beda banked on a season-best game of Javee Mocon as the defending NCAA champions tore Mapua to pieces in the first of the Friday tripleheaders this afternoon at the FilOil-FlyingV Centre.
The Gilas Cadet scored a season-high 22 markers and hauled down 16 rebounds for a monster double-double as the Red Lions remained spotless in the first round with their fourth win on the trot.
Fellow Cadet Robert Bolick had a season low eleven points but made up with his best passing game, dropping 8 out of the season high 18 dimes made by the Mendiola side.
San Beda nearly wasted their thirty-point first quarter outburst in the next period when Cedric Pelayo exploded for a dozen to reduce their lead to just four points heading into the break.
However, Mocon roared back in the second half when he fired a dozen of his own in the third to put the Red Lions home and hosed with a 10-point cushion in which they never relinquished.
