Breakthrough Tokyo event headlines One's 2019 calendar

One Championship's stars joined hands in announcing the promotion's first fight card in Tokyo.

MANILA--2018 may not be over yet, but One Championship already revealed its 2019 fight cards.

Highlighting next year's set of events is the promotion's first event in Tokyo set for March 31.

"Japan has a rich martial arts culture and history, and One Championship has been planning for a very long time to bring our authentic martial arts experience right here to the fans, deep in the heart of Asia," said One chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong on Thursday.

Former One lightweight champion Shinya Aoki is among the happiest to hear the news, saying, "One Championship is a tremendous organization and now that we are going to have our first live event in Tokyo, it will only help highlight the beauty of martial arts in Japan."

Joining the Japanese MMA star in the official launch of the Tokyo fight card are reigning champs Angela Lee, Bibiano Fernandes, Brandon Vera, and Yoshitaka Naito along with Renzo and Ralph Gracie, Garry Tonon, Giorgio Petrosyan, Nong-O Gaiyanghadao, Mei Yamaguchi, and Ken Hasegawa.

Tokyo will actually host a One Championship event twice as another fight card is set on Oct. 11

Meanwhile, Pasay will once again host four One fight cards for next year.

The Mall of Asia Arena will be the battleground for One's Jan. 25, April 5, Aug. 2, and Dec. 13 MMA showcases.

Jakarta will host the first One event of 2019 on Jan. 19 and will be capped with an event in Seoul on Dec. 20.
