PASIG—College of St. John Paul II Arts and Sciences issued a
statement early on while junior’s champions First City Providential College
started its repeat drive strong on opening day of the Universities, Colleges,
and Schools Athletic Association (UCSAA) Season 8 at the Ynares Sports Arena on
Friday.
The Mighty Lions sizzled right from opening tip then banked
on Rannie Raymundo’s torrid scoring as it tore down Don Bosco-Mandaluyong,
103-55, for its breakthrough win in the league.
The boys of coach Kiko Flores pounced on Don Bosco’s
shooting woes while firing a 36-9 first quarter edge., while preserving 30-point
spread in the match to score the wire-to-wire victory.
Raymundo, the 6-foot-3 center, finished with a game-high 33
points, 22 coming from the first half where he almost outscored the whole Grey
Wolves side (27 points).
Emil Alcantara and Jayson Mangulabnan were the onlt bright
spots for Don Bosco, finishing with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
The Junior Royal Eagles, on the other hand, outplayed Pasig
Catholic College, 77-67, in the lone juniors’ match-up to likewise start its
campaign on a winning note.
Reigning Juniors’ MVP Matthew Bravo led three other Eagles in
double figures with 22 points, while Theo Pabico issued 16 and Diaz 15.
CSJP will return to action on Sept. 8 opposite Pasig
Catholic College. FCPC, on the other hand, trade baskets with new team St.
Theresa’s School of Novaliches on Sept. 4.
