The Philippines inched closer to the second round of the AFC U16 Women's Championship qualifiers Friday afternoon in Kathmandu's Halchowk Stadium after it eliminated Malaysia by the slimmest of scorelines in their Group E match.

Substitute Keanne Alamo fired the winner nine minutes from full time to get their second win in a row, avenging their 2-0 blanking by the same Malaysian side in the AFF U15 tiff earlier in the year.

This comes a dominating yet subdued performance where Joyce Landagan's girls had peppered the Malaysian goal for six shots in the entire match, in which they were denied twice by the post in both halves

The Young Malditas now have their eyes set on Sunday's match-up against Myanmar, who pummeled hosts Nepal 11-1 to go top of their group on goal difference.

A win by the Young Malditas will not just won them their group, but also secure their spot in the second round without any doubts, as any result other than that will bring mathematical complications as they hold the final spot for the runner-up ranking at third place, with tournament hosts Thailand occupying the second spot behind Bangladesh.
