Zobel zaps GAU in the W-League battle of Animo

CARMONA -- De La Salle Zobel cause a shocker in Saturday's PFF Women's League action, zapping their big sisters from Green Archers United, 2-1 in a battle between two Lasallian sides in San Lazaro.

The much younger Jr. Lady Archers of coach  Mai Martinez leaned on a brace by Marinelle Cristobal for their first win after three tries while the older side suffered their second successive setback.

GAU dominated the proceedings from the opening whistle, with their experience gave Zobel fits, with Maria Tuason got unlucky as she saw her 10th minute effort denied by the right post.

However, it was their little sisters that took the lead nine minutes later, when Cristobal pounced on the defensive miscommunication and fired her right-footed shot past Inna Palacios' left side.

Zobel could have gone 2-0 up well past midway point of the first half, but the crossbar had denied Cristobal and TJ Isulat in that order to keep the slim lead at the break.

Nicole Andaya broke through the gates at the restart, but the right post had denied them again just 94 seconds into the second half.

Cristobal completed her brace in the 51st minute while on a counter, finishing off Palacios off with a clean right-footed effort.

Andaya atoned for her miss ten minutes later when she zoomed past the Zobel backline to pull a goal back.

However, that proved to be a late consolation as their younger counterparts get a huge win.
