MANILA--The RP Blu Boys captured the bronze medal in the Makassar Open International Men and Women Softball Tournament in Indonesia.

The Blu Boys won seven of its 10 assignments and were actually poised to vie for the championship.

The Blu Boys started their campaign in the double round robin elimination phase on a roll, getting all of their seven wins in a span of eight games capped by a six-game winning streak including back-to-back wins against host team Pirates and Kiwi club Picadilly.

However, the Blu Boys suffered huge losses against the New Zealand national team and Malaysian club Lakidende, costing them a chance to win it all.

The Blu Boys and Lakidende ended up tied for second at 7-3, but the latter's 9-1 aggregate lead catapulted it to the titular showdown, which is ongoing as of posting, against New Zealand, which topped the eliminations.

Despite missing out on the final, Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines president Jean Henri Lhuillier lauded the Blu Boys's stint.

“The team’s strong performance in the competition is a testament to how Filipinos can excel in softball,” said Lhuillier. “With the Blu Boys as their role models, I hope that more young Filipinos will take up the sport.”
