New signing Reyes impresses as Navotas beats ParaƱaque

By Ivan Saldajeno

MANILA--Jai Reyes played a decent all-around effort in his first game with Navotas as the team prevailed over ParaƱaque, 90-83, in the MPBL Datu Cup at the Angeles University Foundation Arena in Angeles on Wednesday night.

Reyes, formerly of the Laguna Heroes, made up for a not so great shooting with his court generalship and defense as the Clutch evaded dropping into a three-way tie for seventh to ninth places in the Northern Division with the win.

Navotas broke loose in the third quarter, outscoring ParaƱaque, 30-17, to turn the seemingly close match at halftime to a Navotas domination.

Reyes dished out eight assists and grabbed four rebounds, two steals, and one block while collecting 18 points, albeit on 4-of-13 shooting as the Clutch moved up to 5-6, a full game clear of the Pampanga Lanterns, which will host the Makati Skyscrapers later Wednesday.

Ron Dennison also made 18 points on a more efficient 8-of-12 shooting with nine boards, two assists, and two steals, while Marlon Gomez had a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds with four assists and one steal.

Harold Arboleda made 16 markers, 14 caroms, three dimes, and two interceptions for the Patriots, who fell to 6-6.
