MANILA-- University of Santo Tomas
collared its third straight title by sweeping DE La Salle University on the
best-of-three finals of the UAAP 81 women's beach volleyball tournament at the
SM Sands by the Bay in Pasay Sunday.
Four-time MVP Sisi Rondina and Rookie
of the Year Babylove Barbon capped off another unbeaten run with a masterful
21-7, 21-16 Game 2 win over Tine Tiamzon and Mich Morente for the title, the España-based
schools' sixth beach volleyball crown over-all.
And they did that with even dropping a
set in 19 matches dating back from Season 79.
After barely surviving La Salle en
route to a 21-18, 21-19 win in Game 1, Rondina and Barbon waxed hot in the
first set of Game 2 and never looked back since.
"Nag-start ako
ng first year parang alam ko sa sarili ko na wala pang napapatunayan kasi
ganito lang, maliit lang ako," said Rondina, who had a hand on four
championships and finished with a 40-6 win-loss record.
"Pero the time na
nananalo kami, puwede pala. Bonus na itong MVP. Ang goal ko lang talaga manalo
at makapagbigay para sa UST."
