MANILA-- Krung Arbasto just gave UST a
perfect send-off gift: reclaiming the championship.
Arbasto and his rookie partner Jeron
Requinton succesfully brought back the crown to España after besting Far
Eastern U, 21-13, 22-24, 15-10, in
Game 2 of the UAAP Season 81 men's beach volleyball crown Sunday morning at the
SM Sands by the Bay.
Fresh from its
semifinal conquest of deposed champions National U yesterday, Arbasto and
Requinton wasted no time in foiling the championship ambitions of the Tamaraws to complete the sweep in the best-of-three
championship series.
This is UST's fourth
men's beach volleyball crown and first since losing it to NU in Season 80.
UST got the headstart
in the series, winning Game 1, 21-14, 21-16, earlier in the
morning. But were even held a 20-18 lead in the second set of Game 2 but the
FEU pair of Jude Garcia and replacement Richard Solis regained composure to
force a deciding third set.
The third set was
even tighter, with the Tamaraws knotting the count at 8-8, but the Tigers
exploded with a 7-2 closing to finally close the match.
Arbasto capped off
his college career with the MVP award, while Requinton was named as Rookie of
the Year.
For FEU, it was
another runner-up finish for them after finishing second in Season 79 behind
UST.
