Tigresses secure finals seat in UAAP beach volley; Tams follow suit in men's side

By Ricky Manliguis

Another sweet sweep for University of Santo Tomas.

Sisi Rondina and Babylove Barbon took down a hapless Far Eastern U side, 21-9, 21-5, to book another automatic finals berth in the final day of elimination round play of the UAAP Season 81 baech volleyball  at the Sands SM by the Bay in Pasay City.

With Rondina and Barbon working like clockwork, the defending champions continued its mastery over the Season 79 and 80 finalists for a 7-0 record without dropping a set in the competition.

The win also extended its win streak to 17-0 and 24-1 over-all spanning three seasons.

Earlier, Justine Dorog and Isa Molde slammed the door on Ateneo's Ponggay Gaston and Jules Samonte, 21-19, 21-19, to nab the last bus in the stepladder semis.

Gaston and Samonte got a lease of life when they feasted on UE's Donna Nebrea and Shan Ritual of winless University of the East,  21-10, 21-11, but smacked into a brick wall against the UP pair.

La Salle's Tin Tiamzon and Mich Morente then secured second and twice-to-beat advantage after beating  NU,  21-13, 21-12, and UP, 21-17, 21-14.

The Lady Bulldogs wound up in third.

In the men's draw, the FEU duo of Jude Garcia and Kevin Hadlocon likewise booked a final seat with a 21-3, 21-5 win over Ateneo's Kurt Aguilar and Abai Llenos.

UST's  Krung Arbasto and Jaron Requinton then nailed the twice-to-beat incentive with  a nervy 30-32, 21-12, 15-13  squeaker over defending champs National University.

Adamson waylaid winless La Salle, 21-18, 21-18, for fourth place.

Stepladder semis action will begin tomorrow, while the best-of-three finals will commence on Sunday.
