Two-way win for FEU as Comboy hailed Player of the Week

By Sherlyn Paleg

MANILA--With the hot hands of FEU guard, Wendell Comboy got the recognition and applaud as the Chooks To Go Collegiate Sports Press Corps UAAP Player of the Week.

In FEU's comeback game against NU Bulldogs last Wednesday, Comboy topped the scoreboard with 7 of 12 run from the field.

And the momentum continues in the breathtaking feat against then-undefeated AdU Soaring Falcons by scoring 13 points.

The defensive plays he showed in the dying seconds of the extra period, Comboy fired up and help the Tamaraws to escape San Marcelino's squad.

“Bonus na lang yung block, ang laging sinasabi sakin ni coach Johnny, talagang force to miss – hindi mismong block, just force to miss lang,” the guard shared. “Not to the point na late ka chachallenge, not to the point na maffoul mo siya. Gulat na lang ako naabot ko yung bola, lalo na si Sean Manganti pa yun diba."

“Sa simula’t sapul yun naman talaga ako, sa offense di ko na ineexpect yan dumadating na lang talaga. Pero yung nnagbibigay sa akin ng playing time, sabi nga ni coach O, yung depensa. Dumepensa muna ako tyaka nalang dadating ang opensa ko. Bonus na lang yun.”

Comboy surpasses Growling Tiger Cj Cansino, Blue Eagle Angelo Kouame, and Fighting Maroons Bright Akhuetie for the weekly award given by writers from print and online.

FEU Tamaraws will try to continue their winning streak as their next assignment is against the UAAP S80 defending champion Ateneo Blue Eagles on Wednesday, 4 p.m., at the Mall of Asia Arena.
