Defending champs Petron handily dispatch young Smart team

SAN JUAN, MM — Petron Blaze Spikers brushed off the token opposition Smart Giga Hitters put up to score a 25-23, 25-24, 25-18 rout and capture its third straight victory in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Cup at the Fil Oil Flying V Centre.

Petron went tit-for-tat against the Giga Hitters after a quick 23-23 tie, veteran Aiza Maizo-Pontillas finished things off with back-to-back points.

Experience and composure has been the juggernaut of the Blaze Spikers as they got total control of the game maintaining a double-digit lead to easily stumbled the second frame.

Blaze Spikers had the Giga Hitters close behind midway through the third set, 16-15, but they eventually zoomed away and finished the match on a 9-3 run. Mika Reyes finished things off with a quick kill.

Coach Shaq Delos Santos to his players: "Hindi porke't nakuha na natin 'yung dalawang sets, okay na tayo. "Tandaan niyo 'yan ang kailangan nating i-improve, 'yung end game. Kailangan finish strong tayo," he added.

MVP's of the Match were Rhea Dimaculangan with 30 excellent sets and Sisi Rondina with 9 attack points.

Smart's Captain Aiko Urdas leads the Giga Hitters with 15 points with the help of FEU Tamaraws' Jerrili Malabanan with 12 points.

Petron Blaze Spikers next assignment is against their rivals and undefeated F2 Logistics Cargo movers on Saturday, November 10, 6 p.m., at the Alonte Sports Arena in BiƱan while the Smart Giga Hitters will take on the undefeated Foton Lady Tornadoes on Tuesday, November 13, 4:15 p.m., at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
