SAN JUAN, MM — The Foton Tornadoes continued its winning streak after overpowering Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors in 4 sets, 25-14, 25-21, 19-25, 25-13, Thursday at the Fil Oil Flying V Centre.
Both team exchanging points in the first set but Foton leads in the 1st TTO, 8-7. Foton had string of points which led Sta. Lucia to push the time-out button, 12-8. Arriane Layug has contributed a lot in spikes and gave Foton a 7-point lead heading into the 2nd TTO, 16-9. Sta. Lucia aching to bounce back but a 10-point barrier built by Foton has been too much to handle for the Lady Realtors, 25-14.
Tornadoes are off to a hot start in the second set, 9-2 but the Lady Realtors inch closer after a 6-0 run led by 4 consecutive aces for Rubie de Leon, 9-8. But eventually, Foton rallies to 2nd TTO after a long rally ended by Pam Lastimosa spiking the ball into the net, 16-13. Bea de Leon puts them into set point 24-21 via an overkill and Layug put the exclamation in between Zones 5 & 6, 25-21 to get a commanding 2 set to none lead for Foton.
Confidence are back for the Lady Realtors after putting a 5-to-none lead in the 3rd set after going into the 1st TTO, 8-5. All of the sudden, Tornadoes are back on the set via a 5-point run, 8-9 to push Coach George Pascua to a timeout. Bea de Leon scores back-to-back aces which tied the game and snatch the lead, 16-15. A contested call at 19-all gave Sta. Lucia the momentum and finally got Set 3, 25-19.
Foton surge in Set 4 building an 8-1 lead. Sta. Lucia fighting back but Foton never looked back and post the biggest lead of the game at 24-13 and ending the match with a block by Captain Maika Ortiz, 25-13.
Foton’s Former Lady Bulldogs Carmina Aganon leads the squad with 19 points and former DLSU Lady Spiker Arriane Mae Layug got her career high with 15 attacks and 2 aces.
Sta. Lucia's Jhoana Maraguinot leads the squad with 11 points and 11 excellent receptions with Lady Realtors setter Rubie de Leon with 8 points and 9 excellent sets.
Foton Tornadoes Blue Energy will take on the Smart Giga Hitters on Tuesday, November 13, 4:15 p.m., at the Filoil Flying V Centre while the Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors will try to gain their first win against the Cignal HD Spikers also on Tuesday, 6.p.m, at the same venue.
