MANILA -- The Generika Ayala Life Savers registered their win number one in the PSL All-Filipino Conference as they pushed the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers to their second straight loss, 19-25, 25-22, 25-16, 28-26, Tuesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.
The Cargo Movers proved their dominance in attacking despite a sloppy reception carried from their last game against Petron to get the opening set.
Momentum shifted to Generika's side in the second frame as they manage to put a four-point lead midway through the set.
The Life Savers won convincingly, torching F2 with a pair of aces in the frame and being more active in defense. A string of errors by the Cargo Movers and a spike from team captain Angeli Araneta put them on set point.
Things got bad to worse for F2 as they play catch up from Generika, who tallied the biggest lead of the game at nine points, 23-14.
National team skipper Aby Maraño displayed her vintage form in the extended fourth set despite the Cargo Movers losing the set and the match.
After a 4-0 hot start by F2, Generika snatched the lead, 12-10, to push Coach Ramil De Jesus to a timeout. Generika eventually carried an 16-11 lead heading into the second technical timeout.
The revamped Cargo Movers rallied behind the Life Savers to tie the set, 17-all, and managed to go on set point, 24-20.
Generika recovered and tied the game, again, 24-all, but Kim Fajardo was successful in her 1-2 play to put F2 again in the lead, 25-24.
Araneta eventually tied the game at 26-all with a down-the-line spike.
Two consecutive errors by F2 gave away the set and the match for the Generika.
Generika's Patty Orendain had an amazing game as she was hailed as the MVP of the Match with 18 points, 17 from attacks and an ace laced by 10 excellent receptions.
"Su-support kami, paluin mo lang, diskartehan mo lang," Orendain said when asked about their adjustments before and during the game.
F2 got lifts from Michelle Morente, who had 14 points and 13 excellent receptions, and captain Cha Cruz-Behag, who finished with 11 points.
Generika-Ayala will face Smart on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2 p.m., at the Caloocan Sports Center while F2 Logistics tries to end their two losing streak on Thursday, November 15, 7 p.m., at FilOil Flying V Center.
