Meralco forces rubber match vs Phoenix with rout

PASAY--Meralco stayed in contention for a spot in the semifinals of the PBA Governors' Cup after pipping Phoenix, 90-74, in their quarterfinal clash at the Cuneta Astrodome on Wednesday night.

The Bolts found their offense going in the third quarter, dropping 33 points on the Fuel Masters, matching their entire scoring output in the first half.

Meralco then held off Phoenix in the final frame to come up with the blowout win.

Allen Durham put up 26 points, 16 rebounds, four assists, one steal, and three blocks for the Bolts, who forced a sudden death match against the Fuel Masters on Friday night.

Chris Newsome added 16 points, three rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one block, while Baser Amer put up 14 markers, four boards, six dimes, and two swipes.

Eugene Phelps fired 27 points, 17 rebounds, one assist, two steals, and two blocks for Phoenix, which had its twice-to-beat advantage canceled out.
