THREE ON THE TROT | San Beda retains NCAA hoops title after demolition of Lyceum

PASAY CITY -- THREE'S THE CROWD for San Beda after they repeated as NCAA Men's Basketball champions after smothering Lyceum, 71-56 to sweep the title series Monday evening at the MOA Arena.

Even the presence of CJ Perez did not deter the Red Lions, denying the Pirates a taste of the lead and leading by as much as 20 in a wire-to-wire win, their 14th straight overall dating back to the eliminations to clinch championship number 22, their 11th in the last 13 seasons.

More so, coach Boyet Fernandez's perfect championship record was extended to four, matching the mark set by the current Perpetual mentor Frankie Lim.

Fifth-year senior Javee Mocon capped off his championship-laden career with a Finals MVP award via a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds, with all of his field goals coming from outside the arc, after having a 14-10 outing in Game 1.

Fellow graduating guard Robert Bolick only had 4 markers but made up by nearly outplayed the Pirates on the assist game all by himself with 12 dimes.

Clint Doliguez provided a huge spark off the bench with 14 in just 14 minutes with Donald Tankoua played in might could have been his final game for the champions by posting a double-double of 13 points and 16 rebounds including a thundering slam with less than a minute to go, giving San Beda the biggest lead at 71-51.

CJ Perez played out his Lyceum career with 19 points on his lone finals game this season after being suspended on the series opener that clearly sucked everything out of the Pirates in the title series.
