Even if they engaged in a heated match-up, Mark Barroca insisted that they remain friends with Chris Banchero. Dennis Acosta |
QUEZON CITY--Mark Barroca became the center of online and offline discussions on Wednesday night for the wrong reason.
Barroca appeared to have hit Chris Banchero's groin late in Game 4 of the PBA Governors' Cup Finals between Magnolia and Alaska at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The said hit, which came while Mike Harris was taking a free throw and everyone on the floor was getting ready for the rebound, was seen in the replay with Barroca appeared to have used a closed fist on Banchero.

The said incident, which triggered Alex Compton's rants during the post-game press conference, was not left unseen by Commissioner Willie Marcial as he called Barroca to his table after the game.
"Sabi lang ni Comm na wag daw masyadong pisikalan. Di raw maganda na masyadong madiin," Barroca relayed how the meeting went.
He then insisted that the incident should not be given a big deal.
"Kami ni Banchero magkaibigan naman kami. Di pagkakaintindihan ang nangyari doon. Game yun eh. Di maiiwasan din," Barroca further said. "Ganun talaga. Sa loob, magaaway, pero sa labas, magkakaibigan kami."
He even added, "Kinongratulate ko pa nga siya eh. Sabi ko, ‘Nice game.’ Congrats at nanalo sila."
