QUEZON CITY--From out of nowhere, Paul Lee emerged as the PBA Governors' Cup Best Player of the Conference.

Lee's late surge was enough for him to capture the said plum as announced on Wednesday night before Game 4 of the finals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Lee went on a roll in Magnolia's semifinal series against Ginebra to barely edge Alaska's Chris Banchero in the statistical points.

The said surge, however, was feted by the media, the players, and the PBA commissioner's office by giving him most of the first place votes from each of the said groups.

In total, Lee got 1,013 points, 260 points ahead of Banchero (753).

San Miguel's Chris Standhardinger, who was the frontrunner after the elimination round, slipped to third with 659 points.

NorthPort's Stanley Pringle got fourth place with 520 points, while Ginebra's Japeth Aguilar is in fifth with 398.
