SAN JUAN, MM -- FEU-FERN tightened their hold at second place after they made a quick work of La Salle-Zobel in the UAAP Season 81 Juniors' Basketball tournament with a 95-68 beatdown Wednesday noon at the FilOil-FlyingV Centre.
After a tight opening frame, a second-quarter onslaught was what head coach Allan Albano and the Baby Tamaraws needed to get their fourth consecutive win of the season to improve to 7-2, half a game behind the league leading Nazareth-NU, who will play UST High as of this writing.
Albano was just relieved that they got their bearings together quickly that solved their season long problem of slow starts
"Yung mga last game namin, lagi kaming slow start. Buti na lang, nakuha namini yung second gear namin", he said minutes after getting back at the Junior Archers which dealt them their first loss in the first round
In that second period, FEU-FERN had outscored Zobel 33-15 to turn a 20-17 lead into a 53-32 halftime rout that virtually settled the contest, in which they get the biggest lead at 93-59 at the tail-end of the game.
Rj Abarrientos led by example for the Baby Tams as he lead all scorers with 23, with Royce Alforque chipped in a double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds.
Zobel were still stuck at sixth with a 3-6 card as Henrie Subido fired 14 for the Junior Archers.
