PARANAQUE--Lamar Odom made a huge pre-Christmas when he himself announced that he is making a professional basketball comeback with Philippine club Mighty Sports in the Dubai International Basketball Championship, which will start on Feb. 1.

But why was Mighty Sports able to get the 39-year-old veteran to its fold?

"When the name popped up, we were very much interested in getting Lamar and then, you know, the deal was done," Angelo Wongchuking, a top official of the sports apparel brand, said on Friday during the press conference formally introducing the former National Basketball Association champion as the team's new foreign reinforcement at the Solaire Theater.

Wongchuking also said that even he and the rest of the team management were starstruck when Sheryl Reyes, the one handling Odom for his Philippine duties, said that Odom is available.

"A lot of people from the Mighty Sports management are big Lamar fans, myself included," Wongchuking further said.

Odom will join a talent-laden Mighty Sports squad for the DIBC led by current Ginebra star Justin Brownlee, former Ginebra rookie Jett Manuel, UP King Maroon Juan Gomez De Liano, and Bacoor City hotshot Gab Banal.

"We are very excited to have him," Wongchuking further said.
