SAN JUAN -- Nazareth School of NU maintained their lead at the top of the UAAP Season 81 standings after mauling UST High, 94-66 Wednesday afternooon at the FilOil-FlyingV Centre.
Goldwin Monteverde's Bullpups were just too much for the Tiger Cubs to handle, as four players got double-digit scoring which was a testament to their balanced effort as the season hosts move up to 8-1.
Cyril Gonzales pace NU with 16 points on a 70% shooting from the field, as the Batang Gilas duo of Carl Tamayo and Terrence Fortea had 15 and 14 off the bench respectively.
Capping off the quartet was Gerry Abadiano, with the guard amassed a dozen markers and hauled down 10 boards for a double-double.
Mark Nonoy led all scorers with 26 for the now 4-5 UST but the Tiger Cubs were doomed by the absence of their supporting cast, in which Bismarck Lina was the only other UST cager in double figures with a dozen.
NU practically had the game in the bag at the opening period, with their suffocating defense limited UST to just seven points.
The Scores:
Nazareth-NU 94 -- Gonzales 16, Tamayo 15, Fortea 14, Abadiano 12, Quiambao 8, Buensalida 7, Vinoya 5, Mailim 4, Felicilda 3, Torres 2, Dayrit 2, Javillonar 2, Abiera 2, Alarcon 1, Enriquez 1, Songcuya 0
