DLSU Lady Spikers beat Lady Eagles in an early rivals game

PASAY CITY - With the famous rivalry game started of the UAAP Season 81 Volleyball campaign, Defending champion DLSU Lady Spikers prove how strong they are even though most of their key players graduated last UAAP Season 80 by beating the powerhouse Ateneo Lady Eagles in four sets, 25-14, 25-17, 16-25, 25-19, Sunday evening at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Former S79 MVP and S81 Captain Desiree Cheng led the Lady Spikers together with rookie Jolina Dela Cruz and May Luna. Playing on her last year for the Lady Spikers, Cheng proved how an all-around player she is by getting 13 points with eight spikes, two blocks, three aces, 14 excellent receptions and nine digs.

Rookie Jolina Dela Cruz debut on the UAAP got her 11 points and fourth-year Lady Spiker May Luna got 11 points that greatly help on the Lady Spikers win.

Kat Tolentino led the Lady Eagles with 16 points while Bea de Leon and Maddie Madayag chipped in eight and five points as well for the Lady Eagles but still fell short against the defending champs.

DLSU Lady Spikers (1-0) will face the Adamson Lady Falcons (0-1) on Saturday, 4 p.m., while the Ateneo Lady Eagles (0-1) will try to bounce back and gain a win against the UST Golden Tigresses (1-0) on Wednesday, 2 p.m. Both games will be played at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
