PASIG—Coach Yeng Guiao said that NLEX could not help but rue about losing Kevin Alas again due to a major injury.

The team confirmed on Monday that Alas injured his right anterior cruciate ligament again on Saturday night during its PBA Philippine Cup game against Meralco at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

“We are all saddened. We are all devastated by what happened,” Guiao said hours after the injury announcement.

He added, “Lahat kami nalungkot – hindi lang ‘yung players, coaching staff, management, even our families are devastated of what happened because Kevin is like family to us. But we will just have to be strong for him.”

However, he added too that the Road Warriors are willing to wait for Alas’ knee to heal again.

The NLEX guard is set to undergo surgery again, which will sideline him for up to nine months.

Essentially speaking, Alas would only become available again come the Governors’ Cup at the soonest.

“We will be patient with him. We’ll wait for him until he gets back. We know that he’s a strong boy. He has a strong personality and we know he can come out of this,” Guiao continued.

He then added that the Road Warriors will dedicate their Friday night game against the Phoenix Fuel Masters to him.

“For the meantime, that’s the best we could do,” Guiao concluded.
