Lady Tamaraws prevail over Lady Bulldogs

by Adrian Murilla

SAN JUAN - FEU Lady Tamaraws won their first assignment in the elimination round as they defeated the rookie-laden NU Lady Bulldogs, 22-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-12, Saturday afternoon at the Fil Oil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Despite being down by 16-11 heading into the 2nd TTO, NU had an 8-1 run to snatch the lead, 22-21. Rookie Ivy Lacsina led the run with 6 points and Joyme Cagande's heavy services gave them the first set.

It was a diesel start for the Lady Tamaraws in the second set as they build an 8-point deficit, 11-3 but the Lady Bulldogs inch closer and registered a 6-0 run, 12-17. Heather Guino-o called a ceasefire at set point to finally close a set, 25-19.

Exchange of points by both teams has been evident in the third frame but it was a major downfall for the Lady Bulldogs as their settee Cagande suffered a ligament sprain before colliding to teammate Roselyn Doria. Klymince Orillaneda suit up for the setter position but Carly Hernandez serves up back-to-back aces to claim the set and leads, 2-1.

The whole arena cheered for the substitute Orillaneda but Guino-o fired three straight points to lead by an inch, 8-7. The Lady Bulldogs has been limited to only 12 points while the Lady Tamaraws still has its firepower to end the match with a service ace courtesy of France Ronquillo.

FEU's main weapon is their loaded services as they doubled the aces of the NU squad, 16-8. Rookie opposite hitter Lycha Ebon was named as the Best Player of the Game with 13 points from 9 attacks and 4 aces.

On the other side, rookies Ivy Lacsina and Princess Robles still managed to register double-digit points with 14 and 13 markers, respectively.

FEU Lady Tamaraws (1-0) will next face the UP Lady Maroons (1-0) on Wednesday while NU Lady Bulldogs (0-1) will try to bounce back against UE Lady Warriors (0-1) on February 23, Saturday at the Fil Oil Flying V Centre.
