UE pulls UAAP shocker over Ateneo

By Kevin Estrada

QUEZON CITY -- In just the second matchday, an upset was made in the UAAP Men's football tournament, with UE getting a shock 1-0 win away at Ateneo this Thursday afternoon.

Louie Polinag's seventh minute strike off a corner by Mark Lerion was the lone difference in the match, in which Frank Rieza made himself huge between the sticks for his first clean sheet of the season for Red Warriors gaffer Fitch Arboleda.

"Sa second half, di ko na kelangan ng isa pang score. Kelangan lang namin ng sobrang solid na depensa," said the Stallion Laguna winger, whose win bounced back from their loss to FEU on opening day.

Rupert Bana had his header breezed wide to the right in added time for Ateneo's closest chance, who are shorthanded in their season debut, with AJ Arcilla and William Grierson are at international duty with the U22 Azkals in Cambodia.
