MANDALUYONG--Ervin Sotto confirmed on Tuesday night that his son Kai is indeed flying to the United States for training.

The towering teenage basketball prodigy said the day before that he is heading overseas but did not specifically mention the country he is going.

But hours later, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas said in a statement of its support that the younger Sotto is US-bound, something that his father explained in a press conference organized by Chooks-To-Go at the EDSA Shangri-La Hotel.

"Aalis kami nang April," the current NLEX assistant coach bared the time of departure.

He later bared in a separate interview that he and his son are set to leave by the first week of next month or basically next week.

"Ang una naming stop ay sa Atlanta kasi yung agent na magha-handle kay Kai is Atlanta-based," Coach Ervin then added, pertaining to Maria Espaldon of East-West Private.

He later said that Kai and him will have a stop somewhere in Florida after Kai begins his training in the Georgia state capital.

For now, the focus of Kai Sotto's US training, which will last for two months, is his strength.

"Alam naman nating lahat na kailangan talaga ni Kai na lumakas ang katawan niya," Coach Ervin added. "Alam mo naman na ang basketball is a physical game. Para makipagsabayan sa mga malalakas na players, kailangan mag-start siya ng training."
