MANILA—Ginebra assured itself the third seed in the PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinals with an 86-76 win over Meralco at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City on Wednesday night.
Following a relatively slow first half, the Barangay zoomed past the Bolts in the third quarter, outscoring them, 28-16, and never looking back.
Greg Slaughter made 18 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and two blocks for Ginebra, which holds the tiebreaker over both San Miguel and TNT in case of a three-way tie.
The result actually set up a quarterfinal series between both the Beermen and the KaTropa, while the Barangay will have to wait until the final week of the eliminations right after the All-Star Break to determine their opponents in the next round.
Trevis Jackson poured in 18 points, two rebounds, four assists, and one steal for Meralco, which was knocked out of contention at 3-8.
