MANILA—Right at the very arena where the team claimed the championship, Magnolia once again showed Alaska why it is the reigning PBA Governors' Cup champion.
The Hotshots romped the Aces, 103-86, in the rematch of their finals series in the Philippine Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo on Saturday night.
Magnolia went on a 27-15 second quarter to break out of a 27-all tie at the end of the first quarter and never looked back, even stretching the lead to as high as 21, 101-80, late in the game.
Ian Sangalang made 24 points, 14 rebounds, six assists, and three blocks for the Hotshots, who moved to a tie with the NorthPort Batang Pier for ninth place at 2-4.
Paul Lee chipped in 20 points, eight boards, and four dimes off the bench.
Chris Banchero erupted for 26 points on 10-of-14 shooting with five rebounds, four assists, and two steals for Alaska, but he too had eight of the team's 21 turnovers as it drops to 3-3, tying Ginebra for fifth place.
