Phoenix blasts Alaska to zero in on playoff spot

MANILA—Phoenix moved closer to a spot in the PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinals with a sound 94-80 beating of Alaska at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay on Friday night.

The Fuel Masters bombed the Aces in the second half, limiting them to just 13 points in the third quarter before taking a lead as high as 26 points in the fourth.

Calvin Abueva made 21 points, 16 rebounds, two assists, and one block for Phoenix, which tied Rain Or Shine at the top of the standings at 7-1.

Matt Wright added 20 points, three rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block.

Jeron Teng dropped 23 points, nine rebounds, and one block for Alaska, which fell to 2-2.
