MANDALUYONG—Now it can be told: Batangas City, for a few hours, thought about sealing the other MPBL Southern Division Finals seat in a Northern Division place.

It was revealed on Sunday that there was a plan for Game 3 between the Athletics and the Zamboanga Rapidos to happen at the Bataan People's Center in Balanga on Monday night before the Bataan Risers host the Manila Stars in the other quarterfinal rubber match.

According to Team Manager Gerry Tee through a statement, Zaldy Realubit, the league's operations chief, told Batangas City that it may have to play its decider on neutral grounds in efforts to control expenses, much to Tee's dismay.

“Very unprofessional,” said Tee on Realubit. “The home court advantage is very sacred to us and there’s no way we’re going to give it come hell or high water.”

Eventually, Commissioner Kenneth Duremdes and founder Manny Pacquiao stepped in and gave the Athletics homecourt edge again.

With that, the Batangas City-Zamboanga game will still take place on Tuesday night at the Batangas City Sports Center with the winner taking on Davao Occidental in the South Finals.
