QUEZON CITY--The Adamson Soaring Falcons upended the San Beda Red Lions in a close affair, 73-69, during the resumption of the 25th Fr. Martin’s Cup Summer League presented by Resorts World Manila, Bedans ‘62-‘66, and Cocolife on Wednesday at the SGS Gym.
The game was a seesaw affair until the last minute. After a layup made by San Beda’s Ralph Penuela, Andrey Doria answered back with a trey that shattered the deadlock for good. He and Jed Colonia’s free throws late iced the game.
Lendu Dimercia dominated the interior for the Falcons with 21 points and 20 rebounds while Jed Colonia poured in 12 points and seven assists.
It was the San Marcelino squad’s first win in the tournament while San Beda dropped to 0-2 in Seniors A action.
In the second game, it was the UST Tigresses outlasting the tough DLSU Lady Archers, 52-49 in the very first game of the women’s division of the FMC.
Despite opening the payoff period with a 12-point lead, the Lady Archers mounted a spirited comeback through their press defense and timely baskets by Bettina Binaohan and Chuchi Paraiso.
However, DLSU’s botched free throws doomed them. Overall, they shot only 16 out of 31 attempts.
Elonda Rivera led all scorers with 16 while Grace Irebu poured in 12 markers and 10 rebounds.
Joehanna Arciga tallied an all-around performance for DLSU with 10 points, five rebounds, and six dimes.
Meanwhile, in the juniors division, La Consolacion won decisively against AMA University, 80-74 in Group B.
La Consolacion proved to be too much to handle for AMA by adding on to their 14-point lead first half via and 8-2 run. In the final quarter, AMA University’s comeback attempt was thwarted by late baskets by Kobe Pableo and Edrian Notarte.
Ymard Urbano led the way with 24 points and 13 rebounds, while Chad Amante scored 19 points and three rebounds. Christian Germino tallied 26 points and 13 rebounds for AMA.
FEU scored its first win of the tourney by downing St. Patrick, 84-82 in a close Juniors Group A match-up to round out the quadruple header.
The Baby Tamaraws were able to withstand the barrage of Aaron Lumapas and Geremie Sanchez, who scored 34 and 18 points, respectively.
With the game knotted up at 82 with 30 seconds left, it was Cholo Anonuevo who knocked down the game sealing free throws. Siegfried Llamado tried to tie it up with a baseline jumper, but it grazed off the rim at the buzzer.
Anonuevo led the Tamaraws with 17 points and seven rebounds.
