MANILA—They showed grit all throughout the competition, bowing only to the mighty Chinese-Taipei team

But the dream to earn a spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics ended for the Philippine Women's National Team in Qatar despite a 7-0 rout of Palestine early Wednesday.

As early as halftime, the Malditas took a very commanding 3-0 lead over the Palestinians, one of which was a penalty scored by Joyce Semacio to draw first blood for the Philippines.

Eva Madarang scored a brace for the Philippines that allowed the nation to double their advantage against the Palestinian side.

Joining her and Semacio in the scoresheet were team captain Patrice Impelido, and Alisha del Campo.

Sara Castañeda sealed off the win for the Philippines with her second goal off the penalty spot. She likewise earned a brace for the Philippines.

However, the win was not enough to allow them to advance to the next round of qualifications for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics as Iran failed to win against the Chinese-Taipei side, losing, 1-4.
