Green Archers United edges out Global Makati in PFL midweek fixture

MANILA - It took 72 minutes to break the tie between Global Makati and Green Archers United in the second of the two matches at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on Wednesday night, and the latter walked the 1-0 victor.

Christian Zubiri, who came in as a substitute, proved that he was worth the pick for the Green Archers as he struck the goal past the Global FC goalkeeper.

"When they gave me the chance to play, I have nothing in my mind but to work my hardest. I guess [getting to score the winning goal] is the result of my hard work," said Zubiri.

Global and Green Archers were inseparable in the first half, with only Jerry Barbaso's attempt near the penalty box being the only shot on target but was way off the back of the net.

No other attempts from both team to score a goal in the said half as the ball were mostly controlled in the middle.

In the second half, Green Archers were more determined to push themselves further and expose the weakness of Global, team's cohesiveness, something that Coach Frank Muescan admitted in the post game interview.

"We need to have more chemistry as a team. We fell short because of the fitness," said Muescan

He also said that the team has yet to be completed, with three more foreign players waiting for the green light to suit up for Global.

These players have yet to complete their requirements but may be ready to play in the team's next game.

Green Archers' win against Global did give an additional motivation for their players to work harder for their rally in the third season of the PFL.

"[The win] is going to make me want more goals [to score] so I am going to work for it," added Zubiri who was named as the man of the match.
