MANILA—Whenever any fan of Philippine football hears "Global Makati FC", the name Jerry Barbaso is always attached next to it.

Fans of Global believe Barbaso is a permanent fixture to the team until he left and opted to play for Ceres-Negros FC during last year's transfer window.

Many fans were heartbroken to see him don another jersey other than Global's.

"I took the opportunity given to me by Ceres lalo na they play sa AFC Cup. Ang dami nilang magagaling na players, which most of them are in the National Team. Okay yung experience ko doon." Barbaso shared to Dugout Philippines.

It is opportunity that led him back to Global.

"I came back because of the opportunity. Sabi ko naman naman din talaga na if mawala ako sa Ceres, babalik ako sa Global," Barbaso continued.

Playing his first game back for Global on Wednesday night against Green Archers United was some sort of a reunion for Barbaso and his mother club. It felt as if the prodigal son is back home.

"It's nice to be back. It's nice to see young talents in the team," he further said.

Barbaso believes that his leadership and his experience as one of the pioneer players of Global will be of great help for the coherence of the team, especially that their next assignment is a tough team that he is very familiar with, Ceres-Negros FC.

"Pwedeng factor na familiar ako sa style ng Ceres pero hindi pwedeng ako lang [yung gagawa] pag naglaro kami against them. Kailangan kaming 11 na nasa pitch, mag work hard. Team work is the key in beating Ceres," he further quipped.

When Global plays Ceres-Negros FC on Saturday, Jerry Barbaso sure is the man to watch out for—on how he would perform and lead his mother club against his former team.
