QUEZON CITY--The National University Lady Bulldogs relied on their stout defense and interior dominance to wallop the De La Salle Lady Archers, 99-34, in the women’s division of the ongoing 25th Fr. Martin’s Cup presented by Resorts World Manila, San Bedans 62-66, and Cocolife at the SGS Gym on Sunday.

Five players scored in double digits for NU with Monique del Carmen, Rhena Itesi, Lamama Kapinga, Jack Animam, and Geanne Camelo notching 20, 13, 12, 11, and 11 points respectively.

From the get-go, the five-time UAAP champions controlled the interior and dominated the boards, unleashing a 19-5 run to start the first quarter, and their lead continued to balloon from there.

No Lady Archer scored in double digits with Bettina Binaohan putting in only nine markers while Ameng Torres chipping in seven.

The win helped the Lady Bulldogs improve to a 2-1 win-loss slate in the Women’s Division, while the Lady Archers are yet to find their first victory.

In the second affair, the FEU-FERN Baby Tamaraws used a strong second quarter to pull away from the Diliman Preparatory School Baby Blue Dragons, 91-65, in the Juniors A Division.

Kyle Bautista’s 23 points carried FEU-FERN to push their win-loss total to 2-0 in the Group A standings. He was backstopped by Vince Saldua who poured in 14 points.

After trailing by as high as 11 points in the first period, FEU mounted a 12-4 run midway in the second quarter which gave them the lead for good, capped off by an Anrei Oriel floater.

The Morayta-based squad continued to pile on to their lead by outscoring Diliman in the third frame, 28-10. Their advantage even grew to as high as 35 points in the final period.

Gab Salazar led Diliman in scoring with 18 markers, who are yet to find their first win in the tournament.

In the other Juniors Division tiff, San Beda-Taytay A repulsed San Sebastian, 95-71, to get their third straight win in the Group B Division.

After a nip-and-tuck first period, the Red Cubs jumped to a 12-point lead via multiple conversions from Yukien Andrada, Josiah Alcantara, and Winston Ynot.

Through their press defense and activity on the boards, the Taytay-based squad limited the Staglets to only 31 points total in the first half, and they never looked back from there.

Towering big man Yukien Andrada notched 18 points while Basti Valencia tallied 14 for San Beda-Taytay A, who were missing the services of Rhayyan Amsali.

Nikko Aguilar led the way for San Sebastian with 17 markers, who are now 2-2 in the Juniors B standings.
