MANILA--The country's Girls 12-Under Tennis Team has earned the right to compete at the grandest stage of the brightest young talents across the region as they finished third overall at the recently-concluded ITF Southeast Asia 12-Under Regional Qualifying Tournament, Friday.

After dropping their first two rubbers, young netters Tenielle Madis, Maxie Jarata, and Ivory Malinis went on a two-game winning run to finish the event with two points on a 2-2 win-loss record at the five-day-scheduled affair at the Manila Polo Club in Makati.

The Philippines, along with top two seeds and finishers Thailand and Malaysia, will go on to represent Southeast Asia at the Finals of 2019 ITF Asia 12 & Under Team Competition in Astana, Kazakhstan, later this year.

On the other hand, despite a gritty 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory by Kean Sebastian Enriquez that gave Philippines a hope to stay in contention for qualification, Chad Quizon and Al-Rasheed Lucman suffered a shocking sweep at their last doubles match and bowed out at the expense of eventual third placers Malaysia.

Malaysia, along with Indonesia and Thailand, will represent Southeast Asia in the Boys Division.

The tournament, which ran from May 27-31, was sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation and Asian Tennis Federation and was organized and directed by Ilynn Hupano and the Philippine Tennis Association.
